2018 will mark Philip Smith’s 50 Anniversary in Aikido. Philip began training as a junior in 1968 at the age of nine years old. He joined as a member of the Aikikai of Great Britain and in 1970 he began training with T K Chiba Shihan obtaining his Shodan (1st Dan) in 1976 at the age of 17.
Philip Smith is now a 7th Dan Shihan awarded by Hombu dojo in Japan, and one of the senior instructors of the United Kingdom Aikikai (UKA). He teaches regularly at Ren Shin Kan Dojo, on UKA national courses, and at the annual UKA Summer School.
