Philip Smith is a prominent figure in the British Aikido community, serving as a 7th Dan Shihan and one of the senior instructors of the United Kingdom Aikikai (UKA). With a career spanning over five decades, he is recognized for his technical expertise and his commitment to the traditional martial lineage of Aikido.

Career & Background

  • Rank: 7th Dan (Nanadan), Aikikai.

  • Title: Shihan (Master Instructor), accredited by the Aikikai Hombu Dojo, Japan.

  • Early Training: He began his training as a junior in 1968 at the age of nine. In 1970, he began studying under the influential T.K. Chiba Shihan, obtaining his Shodan (1st Dan) in 1976 at age 17.

  • Affiliation: He is a principal instructor at the Ren Shin Kan Dojo in Halesowen, which serves as the headquarters for the UKA.

Technical Specialization
